| One Of A Kind Dolls by Norma Daniels Every
doll is made from scratch materials such as fur, leather, suede, fabric, yarn, and wood.
This is done in order to achieve handmade dolls of the highest quality, each one having a
unique personality. Each stage in construction has a procedure resulting in texture and
appearance that is "one of a kind".

This old guy has been in the making for some time; major thought goes into
each of my dolls, as I will continue to describe:
His boots and mittens are hand stitched, of finest leather.
Sculpted deerskin face and beard of mink.
He wears a cape of wolverine. And his dress is made of linen with wool yarn stitched all
over it.
The trinkets are an unusual piece of beaver chewed driftwood, made into a birdhouse, with
a roof of leather and a fishing basket that hangs down his back.
An antique horse sleigh bell hangs at his waist, as does a few old keys.
The bucket holds real Alaskan coal, and has a staff of driftwood with a wire medallion. He
drags a wooden sled, heaped with woolen blankets, and old Japanese Saki bottles of lamp
oil.
His hat is trimmed with natural brown Alaskan mink fur, as is his cloak.
This "Russian Saint Nicholas" is the patron saint of Russia and of all children.
| He stands approx. 18 inches tall. Sled is a foot long. My Special Price:
$450.00 Included is a certificate of authenticity and I sign each doll as they are created. |

From the beginning, this St. Nicholas doll has
to be the one in which the most thought, not to mention work, that I have ever put into a
piece. In starting I used paperclay to shape the boots; after it was dry, I stretched
deerskin over the shape; then stitched the mittens to match; at this point the size of
about 20 inches was established. As a freelance artist I have not a pattern to go by, it
is totally visual. Then I construct a cloth body and insert wire from head to toe. Then using Deerskin I sculpt the face. Then on with the pantaloons of crushed velvet; and a robinhood type shirtdress made of hand crinkled satin. The cloak is next, new 100% wool yarn is knitted on machine, then washed in hot water, then rubbed to diminish any grain of the knitting; then hat & cloak are cut out and hand stitched along with the mink fur trim. |
Trinkets
he brings for the children of the village are;
A pewter horse on wheels

For the elders he has brought some firewood, berries and some antique keys; and in a small
3X4 inch sachel are crystal gems(3). He carries a Pewter bell.
He is mounted on a 2 inch thick Alaskan birch tree log which has suede on the bottom; then is signed and dated. Now this special fellow is 21 inches tall, and the base is approx. 10 in. deep and 15 in. wide!!!
